Ecology and Environmental Management

About the program

The program equips students with advanced knowledge that allows them to use legal, administrative and economic technologies for environmental management and environmental protection. The students will be able to analyze, organize, and plan activities of state organizations connected with environmental management and preservation.
This program is focused both on research and applied activities.

The students will be awarded with a Master’s degree in Ecology and Environmental Management.

The aim of the program is to train highly qualified specialists in the field of administrative activity who will be able to make ecologically important management decisions that ensure rational use of natural resources, ecological safety of the population, and the long-term sustainable development of the region and the state as a whole.

Courses

The list of courses directly reflects the program’s aims and includes the following: Environmental Design, Use of Geo-information Technologies, Engineering and Environmental Surveys, Environmental Audit, and others. These courses allow the students to be successful in the relevant areas of activities. Internships, practical trainings, and research activities facilitate the training of the specialists. Internships and practical trainings can be carried out at the University’s laboratories and departments, and external organizations.

Lecturers

Ecology and Environmental Management
The program is implemented by the University’s Department of Environmental Management (Institute of Biology). The program’s partner organizations are: branches of Committee for Natural Resources and Environment and Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection in the Tomsk Region, Research institute of Biology and Biophysics, TSU Research Library, Herbarium named after Professor Krylov, Centre for Environmental Protection Works and Services, and Center for Environmental Design Research. Collaboration with these organizations and institutions encourages improvement of the graduates' skills and knowledge.

• Teaching at the university.

The programme’s graduates will be able to work at state bodies and various federal and regional organizations operated in the areas of environmental protection, environmental management, industry, research institutions, development organizations, and other structures related to environmental protection. These organizations clearly indicate their demand for these specialists.

The development of the Tomsk Region as a technology and innovation zone demands highly qualified ecologists, and after becoming a member of Zone of Innovation Development in January 2015, the issues of highly qualified specialists in ecology became vital. This program reflects this aim.
