About the program

Tomsk State University is the only higher educational institute in Asian part of Russia that has all the necessary conditions and facilities to train highly qualified specialists in the field of geoecology and the evalution of water and climate resources, hydrology of swampy territories, forecasting and regulation of the directions and intensity of anthropogenic impacts on swamp ecosystems, and other relevant areass. The competitiveness of the program is ensured by presence of constant contact with employers, course orientations in accordance with competencies required by the employers and the ongoing work on an advanced vocational training of the teaching stuff of the Department of Hydrology and the Department of Meteorology and Climatology.

The aim of the program is advancing the training of Master's students as highly professional specialists in the areas of climate and hydrological resources. A graduate should possess a creative application of knowledge about contemporary tasks and problems of climatology and climatological data processing; creative activity in investigating hydrological processes: and creative knowledge of current technologies and methods of organizing engineering and hydrometeorological, engineering, ecological explorations and examinations during swamp reclamation.

Internships and practical trainings take place in regional and national centers of hydrometeorology and monitoring of the environment, scientific and research institutes, and other organizations connected with study of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and climate change.

Lecturers

Geology and Water and Climate Resources is implemented by the Department of Meteorology and Climatology of Faculty of Geology and Geography of TSU. During study, there are possibilities to hold classes on the laboratory equipment of the state scientific institution Siberian Scientific and Research Institute of Agriculture and Peat of Russian Agriculture Academy and Institute of Monitoring of Climate and Ecological Systems of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science where the Meteorology and Climatology Department was organized. In addition, there is an opportunity to conduct research in conjunction with computing clusters of the supercomputer Skif Siberia.

Areas of activity of graduates:
There is activity connected with the investigation of the atmosphere, continental waters, oceans and seas, and changing climate, including:

• Scientific and research activity;
• Design and exploration activity;
• Teaching activity;
• Operative and productive activity.

Specialists in these areas are in demand in different sectors of the national economy, including non-governmental structures. There is a possibility of working in the areas related to managerial and production activities in branches of Roshydromet, Aviamettelecom, EMERCOM and Civil Defense, PJSC Tomskgeomonitoring and committees on environmental defense of different levels (urban, regional).
