Aims of the University City Forum

To organize a comprehensive study of the different types of university towns in Europe and Siberia;

To begin the exchange of students and professors between Siberian and European universities in that field of knowledge;

To examine the experience of development of the sustainable cities in Europe, a trend that is completely new but very useful for Russia.

The universities are an integral part of an urban culture. Old traditions combine successfully with the dynamic development of modern cities.

The universities are city-forming for small towns, and they determine the marketing of such an area. Small university towns must specialize for successful competition with their large neighbors.

Many university towns take first place in quality of life. The administration of the university, the student communities, and city halls cooperate for development of infrastructure (for example, in Tubingen and Marburg).

The Russian university system was established by the European pattern. The heritage of European academia should be remembered and developed. The experience of new university centers in Europe (Passau, Olsztyn) is important as well.

The organization of academic areas is especially interesting for Siberian university towns (social support of the students, accessibility of urban infrastructure for them, regular monitoring of the cities, the most comfort for the students).
